Today, International Women’s Day is generating vast awareness to issues surrounding gender parity, diversity equality and women’s rights.
There is a strong call-to-action to motivate communities across the globe to be gender inclusive.
The Construction Industry currently faces challenges influenced by a lack of diversity and skills. This could be improved by addressing gender gap issues and attracting women to the industry that will inspire others to join the workforce and have a positive impact on future growth.
Progress is being made, with more women being encouraged to join the industry each year. However, in 2017 only 12.8% of the industry’s workforce were made up of women and even fewer women were found on the boards of the top 20 UK Contractors.
In comparison, Advanté has made progress already. Overall, 38% of staff employed by Advanté are women – nearly three times the national average – and 2/3 of our operational Board of Directors are women too. We believe in creating a diverse and inclusive workplace that supports and encourages opportunities for everyone.
We also designed our EcoLogic – Oasis instant start welfare range with women in mind, by including two toilets in all our 32ft EcoLogic welfare units. This ensures our Clients can provide separate washroom facilities for both male and female staff working on their sites.
Looking to the future, we will continue to #PressForProgress within Advanté and the Construction Industry by encouraging positive behaviours that challenge gender stereotypes and bias.
