World Environment Day

How we strive to make a difference, every day

Monday 5th June is the 50th anniversary of the United Nations’ World Environment Day. Launched in 1973 to raise awareness about climate issues, it’s the largest global event of its kind, and is celebrated by millions of people across the world who come together with one common aim – to address the global climate crisis.

In 2019, the UK became the first major world economy to commit to reducing greenhouse gas emissions to ‘net zero’ by 2050. Since then, a huge push to achieve this goal has been seen right across the UK economy, from automotive and agriculture to manufacturing and construction.

In fact, it’s fair to say that the move towards net zero will be one of the biggest drivers of change in the construction industry in the coming decades.

Much progress has already been made, but the industry still has a long way to go to enhance its green credentials and contribute to the UK’s drive towards net zero.

Leading the way to net zero

As an environmentally and socially conscious business, sustainability is built into everything we do at Advanté, and we strive every day to make a positive impact and support our clients who are aiming to achieve net zero.

As part of our commitment to delivering sustainable welfare solutions, our Oasis® welfare units are designed to minimise environmental impact. They achieve this by significantly reducing the carbon, noise and costs that are associated with traditional site welfare units.

The latest Oasis® EcoLogic Solar welfare units are completely self-contained, static cabins, silently powered by Advante’s EcoLogic Solar hybrid technology.

Our solar hybrid technology generates year-round, renewable energy, limiting use of the generator and reducing your carbon footprint and running costs even further.

By switching from diesel-powered welfare units to Oasis® EcoLogic Solar, you can drastically cut your carbon emissions and move towards your net zero goals.

Our latest solar and hybrid technology innovations have been recognised across the industry and we have been awarded two Green Apple Environmental Awards for our EcoLogic Solar range –  one for Environmental Improvement and the other for Sustainable Development, plus we also won a Global Silver award for Innovation at the Green Apple World Awards 2023.

Reducing our carbon footprint – and yours

We have always been committed to reducing our clients’ carbon footprint, as well as our own, by developing low and zero carbon technologies and materials for our units.

To monitor and reduce our company’s CO2 emissions, we calculate our Organisational Carbon Footprint in line with The Carbon Trust’s guidelines (2018). We measure carbon relative to each Oasis welfare unit hire, as a way to demonstrate our continued carbon reduction. Since 2008, we have reduced our average tonnes of CO2 per hire by over 50%.

Supply Chain Sustainability School

As a Partner of the Supply Chain Sustainability School, we only work with supply chain partners whose ethos and commitments align with our own, in order to minimise any adverse impacts of our operations. We work closely with schemes that focus on positive community impact, including the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

We are also an active member of the Plant Group, where we have been working on how the sector can collaborate to improve air quality and reduce the global carbon emissions from the plant and equipment we all use.

As a result, the group has developed the Plant Commitment Charter. Achieving GOLD Plant Charter Signatory status from the Supply Chain Sustainability School shows just how committed we are to improving air quality and reducing greenhouse emissions.

Our amazing team

Enabling our staff to do the things that matter to them is important to us. To support this, we’ve introduced a paid volunteering day for each member of staff, every year.

As a Partner of the Supply Chain Sustainability School we have also worked collaboratively with other Partners to develop an industry framework which addresses workforce and supply chain challenges. This became the People Matter Charter, which we signed up to when it launched in January 2020.

Giving back

In 2023, we are proud to support World Wildlife Fund (WWF) as our Charity of the Year for the second year running.

WWF is the world’s leading independent conservation organisation. Their mission is to create a world where people and nature can thrive together. To achieve this mission, they work with businesses, governments, communities and individuals to put nature first, make our food system more sustainable, tackle the climate crisis and enable habitats and species to thrive.

Throughout the year we’ll be running events and initiatives to raise money and increase awareness of WWF’s mission.  We hope our supply chain partners, clients and staff will all get involved and help us make a difference!

At Advanté, we’re fully committed to reducing harmful emissions and we strive to make a positive difference to our clients, staff, local communities and the environment – not just for one day, but 365 days of the year.
