As Hill’s trusted welfare partner, we delivered sustainable welfare facilities to their life-changing project – ensuring comfort and efficiency for the teams building 200 modular homes for people in urgent need.
Launched by Hill Group to mark their 20th anniversary, Hill’s pledge, also known as Foundation 200, is an ambitious pledge to deliver 200 purpose-built modular homes for homeless people.
These homes are donated to charities and local authorities, providing safe, secure, and dignified accommodation for individuals in urgent need.
The £15m foundation will deliver the homes on small plots of land such as former garage sites across their areas of operation and will be built to an exceptional standard utilising offsite Modern Methods of Construction.
The properties will be handed over to the partner charity fully furnished and include everything from furniture, white goods, soft furnishings, bedding and even plates and cutlery. It’s a bold and human-centred approach to addressing one of society’s most pressing challenges.
In December 2023, the housing and homelessness charity Shelter composed a report of local authorities’ estimated homeless levels. The numbers were stark – at least 309,000 people in England spent Christmas without a home, including almost 140,000 children. This is a rapid increase of 14%, 38,100 people, in just one year.
Shelter’s analysis of official homelessness figures revealed 1 in 182 people in England are homeless today, with over 3,000 people sleeping rough on any given night (26% increase) and 279,400 living in temporary accommodation – most of whom are families. Now more than ever, a sustainable solution is needed to help people without a home.
“So our pledge is to help re-home the homeless. This is us stepping up and actually being part of the solution, not part of the problem. For all of us that work within Hill, who are out on site, who’re out in the streets, we see this problem on a daily basis and actually this is something we can give back and actually help re-home people for the better”.
– Emma Fletcher, Hill Director
At Advanté, we are proud to play a small part in Hill’s remarkable Foundation 200 initiative – a project that is not only tackling homelessness but doing so with compassion, innovation, and purpose.
We are delighted to deliver our Oasis EcoLogic welfare unit to Hill’s construction site in Chelmsford for 6 months whilst they built the modular homes. Our EcoLogic units provide essential on-site facilities while aligning with the environmental values at the core of the Foundation 200 project. By offering a sustainable welfare solution, we help ensure that those working hard to build these homes do so in comfort, without compromising on Hill’s commitment to low-carbon practices.
“Advanté were great throughout the project with outstanding service and were quick to respond to any queries or issues raised.”
– John Cato, Assistant Site Manager
Hill hired the Oasis EcoLogic 800 Welfare unit from Advanté for its robust, self-contained design with a separate office, canteen, drying room and toilet facilities – everything the team on site needed in one 24ft instant start unit.
The EcoLogic 800 operates quietly with low carbon emissions, creating a clean, safe environment for the team to focus, rest, and recharge. Its EcoLogic hybrid technology and advanced telemetry system enable efficient performance without constant generator use, enhancing the overall experience for staff and the local community.
We believe that small contributions can make a big difference when they’re part of something greater. Working alongside Hill on this initiative allows us to share awareness about a project that’s not only changing lives but setting a powerful example for how the construction industry can lead with both heart and innovation.
“It is a privilege to work with Hill on their Foundation 200 project with our Oasis welfare unit. It is fantastic to see this project evolve on site, as it will help so many people in urgent need of this accommodation. Great work Hill!”
– Carol Templar, Key Account Executive, Advanté
We look forward to seeing even more lives transformed through Foundation 200.
